Communal violence erupted on Friday following a disagreement between youths of the Hausa community and Chabo tribe in Tigno and Tito communities of Lamurde LG, Adamawa state. Reports reaching us indicate that 63 people were so far murdered in cool blood. Most of the killings occurred at midnight after Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri visit and left the area when he calmed the situation.
About 40 corpses were buried this Saturday morning, while more bodies are being recovered- Security agencies and family members of the missing people are still combing the bushes for more bodies and the injured
Reports say soldiers from Gombe have intervened which greatly helped in minimizing the number of casualties and reduce tension in the town.
Governor Fintiri’s visit to the area has calmed the warring parties, but the attack after he left the area has become a major concern to people in the state.
There is tension at surrounding communities for the fear of reprisal attacks.
As at the time of filing this report, Adamawa state police command has deployed a heavy presence in the area.
